In the Alps of Austria
Chalet Christl is the perfect place for both sporting activities and relaxing days in nature. The holiday home is located directly by the ski slope, so you can ski right to the front door. There is also a ski school nearby so beginners can easily learn the basics. And if you want to explore the area away from the pistes, you will find numerous forests, hiking and biking trails in the surrounding mountains. The chalet itself is cosy and comfortable, with a fireplace in the living room and a fully equipped kitchen. From the rooms you have a wonderful view of the mountain landscape.
The Montafon is a winter wonderland and the perfect place to enjoy skiing and snowboarding action. With 295 kilometres of pistes, the area is a paradise for beginners and advanced skiers alike. And with a host of lifts and cable cars operating across the entire region, getting around is a breeze.
Skiing and snowboarding aren’t the only activities on offer in winter. The region is also home to some of the best cross-country ski trails in Europe, along with plenty of options for tobogganing, hiking and ice skating. The nearly 40 cross-country trails come in a wide range of lengths and are groomed daily. The ice-skating track in the Aktivpark is a real treat, especially for children!
The journey is worth it. The small but charming Gargellen ski area offers wide pistes that are simply perfect for carving. The Schafberg restaurant is well worth a visit, too.
You don’t need a car at all to reach our local mountain. Slightly advanced skiers can take the valley run to the Hochjoch cable car right outside the house and ski straight back to the chalet.
Tobogganing in the dark is simply an experience to remember. Sledges can be hired in Vandans. The Golmerbahn takes you up to Latschau, where a 3 km toboggan run awaits. The night toboggan run isn’t open every day – you’ll find the operating times online!
A unique experience on Vorarlberg’s longest floodlit night toboggan run. Over 5.5 km you race through the Maisäss hamlet of Garfrescha down to St. Gallenkirch. Toboggan rental is available on site. If you’d like to fuel up before your run, the Brunellawirt by the top station of the Garfrescha cable car serves regional delicacies from its own production. The night toboggan run isn’t open every day – you’ll find the operating times online!
If you’re looking for the peace of the mountains in winter, the Silvretta-Bielerhöhe offers a particularly beautiful cross-country skiing experience. At around 2,032 m above sea level, Vorarlberg’s highest cross-country trails await – surrounded by snow-covered peaks, clear mountain air and the impressive backdrop of the Silvretta reservoir.
The trails at the Bielerhöhe are ideal for anyone who wants to combine cross-country skiing with panoramic views. Depending on the route, you’ll glide gently along the dam wall, across scenic high-altitude trails or towards Galtür. In total, the region offers around 22.5 km of cross-country fun on easy to intermediate routes.
The Dammloipe Silvretta-Bielerhöhe is especially lovely: the roughly 2 km loop runs along the imposing Silvretta dam and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
Whatever you prefer, on hotter days the region offers the perfect opportunity to cool off! If you’re looking for breathtaking scenery, a dip in a natural lake is a must. Surrounded by mountains and forests, it’s the perfect place to relax and enjoy the fresh air. If you’re more interested in a traditional swimming experience, the region also has several indoor and outdoor pools to choose from. And for those seeking a challenge, there’s even a river where you can put your white-water rafting skills to the test. Whether you’d rather soak up the sun or conquer the rapids, the Montafon has everything you need for a perfect day in the water.
After riding up with the Golmerbahn, the circular trail starts at the Grüneck top station. Over its 3.5 kilometres, the discovery trail offers plenty of variety and fun. Instead of walking down to Vandans, why not put your feet up and let the “Alpine Coaster” summer toboggan run whisk you down to Vandans in adventurous style.
Starting from the baroque church in Bartholomäberg, you reach your destination after about 1.5 hours, where the unique panoramic view over the Montafon mountains rewards you for your efforts.
The 2.7 km educational trail is ideal for families. Set in magnificent natural surroundings, its twelve partly interactive stations bring the fascination of mining to life for visitors. At the end of the trail you’ll find an adventure playground. The best way to round off your hike is with a Kaiserschmarrn at the panoramic inn.
For anyone with a head for heights who is looking for a little adventure, the Silvrettasee via ferrata right by the dam is an absolute must.
Suitable for advanced climbers. Do you dare to cross the rope bridge, too?
For anyone with a sporty streak, the Hochjoch is a real highlight. Just a few minutes from Chalet Christl, the cable car takes you up into the Montafon mountains – and then it’s a fast ride back down into the valley by bike.
The flow trails at the Hochjoch (one easy, two intermediate) offer riding fun, action and impressive views over Schruns and the surrounding mountains. Whether you’re an experienced rider or an ambitious beginner, here an active summer’s day with the family combines perfectly with nature, movement and adrenaline.
Anyone who doesn’t bring their own bike will find suitable rental options in Schruns and the surrounding area.
If you love a good view, plan a tour towards Bartholomäberg. From the valley, the route climbs up to the Montafon’s sun balcony. At the top, beautiful views of Schruns, Tschagguns and the surrounding peaks await.
The tour is especially enjoyable on an e-mountain bike, as the climb does demand a certain level of fitness. In return, you’re rewarded with sweeping panoramas, quiet stretches and a wonderful sense of openness.

The Kristberg is a particularly lovely destination for guests looking for a scenic bike tour with alpine character. From Schruns, the route heads towards Silbertal and on up to the higher ground around the Kristberg. There, wide views, quiet trails and inviting places to stop for refreshments await.
The tour can either be ridden entirely by bike for a sporty challenge or planned with the help of the Kristbergbahn. That also makes it appealing for guests who want more panorama and fewer metres of climbing.
Well suited to: e-mountain bikers, sporty riders who enjoy the scenery
Character: moderate to challenging, full of panoramas, alpine
Tip: stop for a bite at the Panoramagasthof or the Knappastoba
